HMD Globals M-KOPA X1 Smartphone Spotted Online

A while back, we got word that HMD Global was planning to move forward with launching its own offshoot smartphone product line, which will serve as a separate hardware range from the company’s selection of Nokia handsets. With that in mind, it looks like the company has finally launched its first product, which will be sold in collaboration with M-KOPA, a company based in Africa.

Dubbed the “M-KOPA X1,” the device is actually a rebranded Nokia C32, which carries over pretty much the design of the original device, save for the HMD logo on the rear panel. The phone was spotted on M-KOPA’s website, along with details such as hardware and software specs.

The phone comes with a 6.5-inch display which features a waterdrop notch, alongside 4GB of RAM, a 5000 mAh battery, as well as a 50MP main camera on the rear panel. Other features include an 8MP selfie camera, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, as well as a glass rear panel. The phone launches with Android 13, and will be sold for buyer in Kenya.

Based on this development, we still have to wait and see if HMD Global will maintain a separate hardware line of Nokia handsets, or if the company decides to stick to its new product strategy.
